Improve Vocabulary Retention Throughout the Years

Here’s an idea to help your child retain the Spanish vocabulary he/she learns in class throughout his/her 6 years at O’Hara:  create a vocabulary box.  With each new word learned in class, make a flashcard with a picture on one side and the Spanish word on the other. Review words in the box once a week or once every other week. As more words are learned, the vocabulary collection will certainly grow, but at the same time, some of these words will be added to permanent memory through the constant repetition and will not present the same mental challenge that the new words do.

It’s when we fail to rehearse words from past units and years of study that we lose them….  (and with only 16 lessons per year, it’s easy to forget about past vocabulary!)
